Xref uses email to check references. When conducting an online reference check, an email is first sent to the job candidate. This email provides them with a link to a page into which they can input the contact details of their referees.
Once the contact details have been entered, the referees are sent a link to a survey composed of reference check questions chosen by the hiring manager running the check. Once the referee has answered the reference check questions, both the employer and candidate are informed.
